How one note reads
Your opening grounds us in sensory detail — the smell of bread and the sound of humming create an intimate, specific atmosphere. The phrase “a thousand years” is evocative; consider “as long as she could remember” to keep the warmth while staying believable. In the final line, hint at what the narrator wants to say — that unspoken desire will deepen the reader’s connection without losing your voice.
