Why I built this house
Hello, and welcome. My name is Tassandra Barnaby. I am a Jamaican-born author, poet, and storyteller. I spent my early childhood in Jamaica before moving to the United States, carrying with me the rich culture, resilience, and warmth that continue to influence my voice and perspective today. From an early age, I found comfort in filling notebooks with poems and stories. Writing was more than just a creative outlet; it was how I understood my emotions, explored my imagination, and made sense of the world around me.
If we were sitting together in this sanctuary, there are a few quiet truths you would learn about me. Above all else, I am a mother and a wife, deeply grounded by a family I adore and an amazing husband who endlessly encourages me in everything I do. You will also usually find our sweet dog, Koa, never too far from my side. I am naturally drawn to the color yellow—it holds the warmth of the sun and mirrors my own bright spirit, though I find poetry in every shade. My heart is firmly anchored in my Jamaican roots, and our home is almost always filled with the soulful rhythms of R&B, Soca, and Reggae music. As for my reading habits, I am most at peace with a book on a rainy day, listening to the water rhythmically tap against the glass, or deep in the night when the rest of the house has finally fallen entirely silent.
Though my love for mathematics led me to earn an Associate Degree in Accounting and build a career in healthcare finance, my passion for the blank page never faded. In 2026, after facing an unexpected layoff, I decided to fully embrace the lifelong passion that had always been waiting for me. That decision became the foundation of TassandraInk. Today, I am the proud author of the poetry collection Ethereal Whispers: Ethereal Emotions and the children's book Koa the Friendly Dog. My love for storytelling also inspired me to create Tass & Titan Kids, a vibrant YouTube channel where little wonders become big adventures. I am eagerly looking forward to publishing more books in the future, and I am so incredibly excited to share this evolving journey with everyone.
